Biography
Tony Campbell a distinguished figure in jazz has been twice inducted into the Pittsburgh Jazz Hall of Fame, first in 2010 by the Pittsburgh Jazz Society as their “Youngest Saxophone Player Inductee” and again in 2024 as a revered member of the “Manchester Craftsman Guild Jazz Legends” group. Campbell’s musical journey commenced in Pittsburgh in !973. At age thirteen, his unwavering dedication and exceptional talent on the saxophone propelled him into the global jazz landscape, swiftly establishing him as a prominent name within the Pittsburgh jazz scene. Following formal education at Berklee College of Music and the University of Pittsburgh under the tutelage of Dr. Nathan Davis, Campbell’s pursuit of mastery led him to New York City. There, he engaged in personal study with many jazz masters and served as Lead Alto player and Musical Director for over a dozen diverse ensembles, including cruise ships and touring productions for internationally acclaimed artists. Upon his return to Pittsburgh, Campbell established his own bands, tribute shows and various theme concerts along with teaming up with Jazz Icon Roger Humphries as his Lead Alto player an Musical Director of his Big Band. Tony Campbell continues to enrich the city’s cultural fabric through his multifaceted contributions as a performer, teacher, educator, recording artist, producer and host of dynamic jazz jam sessions.
